Crutching your sheep is an important part of sheep ownership.
So, why do we crutch?
Firstly, poo and urine stain in your animals wool can attract flies and lead to fly strike. Sheep with Dag are 7 times more likely to be fly struck then sheep with clean bums!
Fly strike is when the flies lay eggs in the wool. After hatching, the maggots bury themselves in the sheep’s wool and eventually under the sheep’s skin. If not treated, fly strike can be lethal.
Crutched ewes are easier to join with rams, have a more hygienic birth and easier to access udders for the lambs. This reduces chances of infection and issues down the track.
Your sheep will be happier, your wool will be cleaner and your shearer will love you.
If you notice your sheep have a bit of poo around their bums, it’s time for a crutch!

To prepare for your booking:
🐑 The best sized yard is around 3mx3m or smaller. It needs to have no holes the sheep can squeeze through. Yards should be prepared on relatively flat ground with no hazards. Makeshift yards can be made with farm gates and star pickets really easily!
🐑 Failure to yard your sheep before your appointment will be charged at the full price of the consultation.
🐑 If we book a day that happens to have wet weather and you don’t have a undercover yard we will need to postpone to a dry day.
🐑I don’t take the wool, so that is yours to do with as you wish.
🐑 I am completely battery operated and don’t require electricity.
Please fill out the Booking Form and Chloe will get back to you as soon as possible.
